Designer Larissa von Planta's initiative, The Alsama Project, supports artisans affected by the Beirut explosions. Update one of your current pieces into something custom done by a Lebanese embroiderer. All proceeds go toward rebuilding their studios destroyed in the blast.
The Alsama Project
Larissa has lived and worked in Beirut for four years and collaborated with Alsama Studios throughout this time. Alsama’s embroidery studios are based in the infamous Shatila Camp on the outskirts of Beirut. Their aim is to empower women by providing fair, sustainable work. This collaboration will assist in rebuilding the livelihoods of these women, whose ability to make a living through their work is currently jeopardised by catastrophe. Please DM the FS Instagram (@fs.standrews) to organise a drop off time with one of our committee members, who will bring your item to Larissa. All you need is an item of your clothing as well as £40, which will pay for the item to be meticulously hand embroidered at Alsama Studio. 100% of all funds received will go directly to the women working at Alsama. The embroiderers at Alsama are experts in their field and, together with Larissa, will choose a suitable design for your garment. For the best work, we recommend cotton/linen/silk shirts, shawls or denim jackets. (Please do not send any trousers, anything stretchy or lined as these are not suited for embroidery). Examples can be seen in the photos depicted in the Zine.
